THE HOT WATER SOURCE and the SALT MINE

At the foot of the Lodge, a natural source of hot water has existed for thousands of years. An exotic and magical place, the source is also an important place for the villagers and mountain people who have known this secret for centuries.

So it is no coincidence that our Lodge was located here. The idea of the Lodge was conceived to use this natural resource for our spa, in the form of the incredible outdoor bath built 4m high. Sitting in this unique, relaxing bath, overlooking the river and the mountains, you are lulled by the sounds of the jungle that pierce the wisps of steam rising from the water. Literally, total immersion and an experience that makes a stay at Muang La Resort worthwhile.

We were careful not to disturb the local way of life that gives a richness to this corner of paradise. We only use a small part of the hot water source, and we have worked with the local people to find a way for the hotel to exist in the area. By building a platform and bridge especially for the local people and maintaining the banks of the river, the Lodge contributes to the welfare of the villagers, who now have easy access to the river and the hot water spring.

On the shore facing the lodge, an amazing salt mine will take you back in time. The salt is extracted from the river banks, dried in the sun in intriguing small piles and then any impurities are removed by evaporation using a fire. Salt has been extracted in this traditional way for many centuries and the techniques passed from generation to generation. Accessible on foot via the river or the bridge, the mine will surprise even the most seasoned traveller.
