Muang La Lodge

2008 – 2022

Muang La Lodge has closed

Muang La Lodge no longer welcomes travellers. Our adventure came to an end after the flood of late August 2022, which swept through the Nam Pak valley. This site stays online just as it was, for those who stayed here and for those who would like to see what the house was like.

Our little jewel of northern Laos. Opened in 2008 on the banks of the Nam Pak river, in Oudomxay province, the lodge was for fourteen years our favourite address in the north of Laos: ten rooms only, in small traditional Lao wooden houses, each with its own private terrace over the garden or the river. No television in the rooms — people came here for the silence.

More than a hotel, a human adventure. This lodge is one we dreamt up and built ourselves: Jean-Paul Duvergé and Touny, the founders of Asia Safari, after five years exploring the north of the country. It was our first hotel creation, and from the very first day we wanted the villagers to be part of the daily life of the house. The journey began at the garden gate.

We keep the faces, the lantern-lit dinners and the misty mornings over the river — and this site, for the memory of it.
